The leather industry is among the leading export sectors of Turkey and a considerable amount of leather exports comes from sales in the tourism sector.

The Turkish leather garments industry has become the fifth largest exporter in the world. Turkish leather garment companies are producing the finest womens' and mens' leatherwear collections by using an unsurpassed blend of colours, patterns, manufacturing care and quality materials. Quite a number of companies in the sector are exporting their original collections with their own brand name.

Turkey has one of the world's most advanced leather saddlery industries and its products are famous for their excellent materials, their superior styling, distinctive use of colour and their perfect finish. The main destinations for exports were the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Russian Federation. Turkey exhibits its unique leatherwear and footwear collections, capacity and products in fairs, which are mostly organized in Istanbul.

A leather fair named ' IDF- Istanbul Leather Fair' is organised once a year in Istanbul. The fair covers leather garments, fur garments, tanning machines, chemicals, leather for garments, raw leather, leather accessories, designers, sectoral associations and press, finishing plants. It is now possible to see the best examples of Turkish leather products in specialized shops in the world's most prominent fashion centers.
