Mobile phone subscribers have reached up to around 50 million while there are 19 million fixed line subscribers in Turkey. The telecommunication sector itself creates a 13 billion Dollar sector.

Researches show that the number of subscriptions will increase four folds in the coming four years and reach 5 billion. The mobile telephone market in Europe is expected to grow 10% and reach up to 1 billion subscribers in the coming four years.

This market is expected to grow more than two folds of the growth in Europe in the same period of time and reach up to 85.3 million subscribers by a 24% increase. Turkey, expecting 16.5 new subscribers, will have the ratio of the number of lines by population as 114% in 2012. This figure will bring Turkey among top 15 countries with highest number of mobile phones. World's Mobile Market will grow by 162 billion USD in four years while 24 and 1.8 billion dollars of this amount will be originated in Europe and Turkey respectively.

Researches show that Turkish market will grow faster than the European market does by the year 2012 and reach 10.5 billion dollars by 21% increase. It is also expected that the share of data incomes within the total income will be raised from 18% to 30%.
There are currently three GSM operators (AVEA, TURKCELL and VODAFONE) in Turkey.
