Exploration of the Historical Underwater Basilica in Lake Iznik Continues

A 600 year-old Eastern Roman Basilica was discovered at the bottom of Turkey’s fifth largest Lake Iznik, a historic site surrounded by lush green forests.  A mosaic adorned with figures of snakes and assumed to belong to the Roman palace was found during the first exploratory dive conducted on site. A team of experts has been working uninterruptedly at the lake which was declared an archaeological site.
